How Does Etsy Notify You Of A Sale?

Having a shop on Etsy can be an exciting milestone, especially when those sales start rolling in! But how do you find out when someone purchases one of your items?

Etsy has several methods to keep you abreast of your shop activity and sales — here’s what you need to know about how Etsy notifies you of a sale.

How Does Etsy Notify You Of A Sale?

There are three ways Etsy notifies you of a sale: email notifications, orders in your Etsy account, and mobile notifications.

Email Notifications

The primary way Etsy will inform you of a new sale is through email notifications. As soon as an order comes through, Etsy will send an email to the address associated with your Etsy account. This ensures that sellers can stay on top of their orders and ship out items in a timely manner.

To avoid any issues with these emails landing in spam folders, it’s a good idea to add noreply@mail.etsy.com to your email contacts.

View Orders in Your Etsy Account

In addition to email notifications, you can log into your Etsy account anytime to view your pending and completed orders.

Under the “Shop Manager” menu, click on “Orders & Shipping” to see a complete list of order details. The platform neatly organizes them into sections like New Orders and Completed Orders for easy browsing.

Mobile Notifications

While email and account order tracking works well for desktop site management, Etsy also sends push notifications to your phone through the Etsy Seller app.

You can customize which notifications you receive (e.g., orders, reviews, and likes) in the app’s settings. Once you turn on app alerts for orders, you’ll never miss that telltale “cha-ching” of a new Etsy sale!

Do You Need to Contact Buyers After You’ve Made a Sale?

Once an order has been placed, it’s generally not necessary to contact buyers unless:

  • Their address seems incorrect. It's a good idea to verify the address is deliverable before shipping.

  • They’re placing a large or expensive order. You may want to confirm details or offer shipping upgrades.

  • They’re ordering a custom item that you need more information for. Get in touch to discuss customization options or specifications.

  • They added a question or request to their order. Always follow up if that happens.

  • You’re expecting a delay in fulfilling their order. Keep them updated on estimated shipping timelines or issues.

You can message them directly through Etsy’s integrated messaging platform. When viewing the order details, simply select the buyer’s name and choose the “Message” button to send them a message.

Staying on top of your Etsy notifications is vital for providing excellent customer service and running your handmade business smoothly. With so many useful order tracking and notification tools available, there’s no reason for an Etsy sale to ever slip through the cracks.
